Can I become a P.E. teacher with a kinesiology degree?

Salvatore Walls: Can you minor in education? You can become a PE teacher with a kinesiology degree, but you'll need the coursework for teacher certification (usually 6-10 education classes in different areas, depending on the state) as well as your kinesiology courses. If you can minor in education, taking only the classes required for certification, possibly even student teaching, go for it. The only problem I see with your plan to be a PE teacher with no education degree is that PE is most definitely not a need area for teachers - there are more teachers looking for jobs than there are positions available and often PE teachers have a hard time finding a job. You'll need all the certification requirements as a district won't likely hire you to teach unless fully certified. Math? Physics? Spanish? Sure, you might get a job before certification. PE? Probably not. Another option might be to get your kinesiology degree and look for a MAT program, masters of arts in! teaching, which will give you a one-year route to teacher certification....Show more
