There are many algorithms that help you find shortest paths between two points, or sets of shortest path, or couple of disjoint paths, etc. see Dijkstra, Suurballe algorithms.Imagine the following: let the place A and B be streets' intersections. They are placed in a net of streets and their intersections (place where the streets meet). If you define these points of meeting as nodes and the street fragments as edges, here you have the graph: set(N,E) _ set of nodes and edges. Now there are many ways to go from A to B using the edges of this graph, but there are shorter and longer ones.
