Sena Highman: all boats should have a coast guard plate stating the max power the transom will take.. as far as 50 to 30. matter of trying it.. alot of weight in the boat will obviously effect plain..the 50 probably struggled to plain with weight, so think about less power to the same weight.. jack plate was intended for shallow water apps.. or deeper transoms with shorter lower units.... either case it wont help a underpowered boat plain.. hope this helps.
