How do people manage destination weddings or even travel weddings?

Toney Flaten: If you can't afford to fly everyone to the destination and pay for the hotel, don't have a destination wedding.

James Langmyer: I would imagine they would do it the same way (everyone flies themselves down and pays their own hotel room, etc.), just with a bigger reception venue. It would take someone of extraordinary wealth to be able to cover a bill like that for all the guests. Typically however, destination weddings usually involve smaller numbers to begin with. The couple may just invite immediate family and close friends and even if they do invite others, it can't be expected that everyone is going to be able to make it....Show more

Caroyln Ebach: All of the destination weddings I've been to and in, I have paid my own way for the trip (flight/hotel/car rental, etc all things typical for a vacation). However, in each one I had the opportunity to decline. If I couldn't afford it or it was somewhere I didn't want to go, I would decline it.Th! ough I had a local wedding to half of my guests it was a destination wedding. We got married in Michigan where we live and I'm from. My husband though was born in Greece, raised in Pennsylvania and has family in both Greece and Pennsylvania so for them it was a destination wedding....Show more

Brice Greczkowski: It does happen with some super wealthy people picking up all expenses for their guests, but usually the guests pay for themselves. Trying to arrange a large destination wedding is kind of presumptuous and excludes a lot of the guests, and others who feel obligated to come my not be happy about the expense. If its something you are thinking about its important to gauge the people you really want to attend interest in such an event.

Bailey Lares: Well, first, nobody "has to" pay anything! People are always free to decline. I wouldn't go to one unless it was a place I really wanted to visit anyway. Also., not all destination weddings are to fancy re! sorts or other countries. Today, with families scattered all ! over the country, sometimes people are forced to pick a destination. If most who attend will have to travel anyway, there's no reason you can't pick a nice spot. We polled our guests and they were all pretty stoked about S. Lake Tahoe.I quietly helped a couple, but most paid their airfare and hotel. I researched these carefully to find budget friendly options. I provided dinner, a breakfast the next morning and some kick-azz goodie bags at their rooms. Those were fun to put together....Show more

Lynn Mctier: i've been to one, and I was responsible for all costs. airfare/hotel etc. they treated us to dinner one night, and a boat cruise another night.

Jamika Gregorio: It really depends on the couple, but I think most couples understand that a destination wedding may mean having a very limited number of guests in attendance. In some cases, that's part of the appeal. Some couples may choose to fly some or all of their guests out and/or cover the hotel, but the ! first scenario you described is far more common. It's never safe to assume that the couple will be providing airfare and hotel rooms. Always clarify the financial situation BEFORE booking anything or committing to attend a destination wedding....Show more

Davida Gisriel: The few I've gone to have been pay for yourself or don't go. Like you said, usually it's a much smaller crowd. Sometimes hotels will give a lower rate if a giant group of attendants is in town for a wedding, especially if the wedding is at said hotel.
