is the h1n1 vaccination vegetarian?

Charis Deguzman: Each country has different vaccines. I'll give you the information for the United States. The nasal spray vaccine contains gelatin from pigs. The shot made by Sanofi Pasteur contains gelatin from an unspecified animal. The shots made by CSL and Novartis do not contain gelatin, but they are made with embryonated chicken eggs. Since the eggs are fertilized, I don't know if it could be technically considered vegetarian.Even more importantly, though, is the ethic of doing no harm to any living being. If you do take the vaccine you could potentially harm yourself. If you get a shot with mercury, which most of them contain, you will definitely harm yourself.Thankfully, the vaccines in the U.S. do not contain squalene. But they do in Europe. Injected squalene causes autoimmune disease in a lot of people....Show more

Lynn Melbourne: They use fertile eggs so it's not even ovo-vegetarian, but what other choice do you have besides staying away from people ! this winter. I think all children should get it if possable, my neice has been sick with h1n1 for two weeks now and is just starting to feel better.

Jestine Osumi: all medicine is tested on animals so even if it did not have fertilized eggs or gelatin from animals it would still be not typically animal friendly. If you are pron to get sick or are around a lot of different people you may still want to get the shot. I personally rarely ever get sick so I do not get the flu vaccine nor will I get the h1n1 shots. If you had the h1n1 already then you do not have to worry since I heard it is similar to like the chicken pox in that after you have it once you will not get it again....Show more

Erica Bottaro: No, as a matter of fact, it's not.The vaccine contains squalane -- shark liver oil. It's used to strengthen it or something. It's from a dead animal, so no, it's not vegetarian. Not to mention that they're supporting the endangerment of sharks by putting that in it.! It also has egg in it, so not vegan on two levels....Show more!

Sharolyn Claybourn: wow its a vaccine not food.
